This section applies solely to advocates or devils who are interested in or may be contemplating joining our stable.
We presently do not apply any restriction on entry to the stable or have any policy in place which could restrict movement out of the stable. Our view on entry is based on the simple premise that if an individual is considered a fit and competent person for membership of The Faculty of Advocates by the governing body of The Faculty, then that person should also be considered as acceptable for membership in our stable. The only criterion is that our present resources allow us to adequately service the needs of our membership. Our present ceiling is notionally set at 55 members, subject to the discretion of the Stable Director in consultation with our Principal Clerk. We guarantee confidentiality in any application, and that full and proper consideration will be given to any such application.
In a similar vein, if any advocate wishes to leave our stable for any reason whatsoever, we do not, as do some other groups, apply any notice period which must be adhered to. We see no reason or benefit in holding on to any member who might feel that their interests could be better served elsewhere.
We do not discriminate on the grounds of gender, sexual orientation, race, national origin, disability, age or religion.
If you are interested in applying to join us, please contact our Practice Manager or Stable Director in the first instance for an informal discussion on what procedure to follow. Any approach made with regard to this will of course be treated as strictly confidential.
